Awesome tools for great jobs!

Awesome tools for great jobs!

It's fun to surround yourself with awesome clients, great concepts and a talented team...but what's the one thing that we all love? Cool gear. Yep: it's ok to let your inner geek out every once in a while. Even the most risk-averse person has to get excited about a drone--a mini flying camera platform--and the footage that it can capture. Ronin Gimbal   Well, it's not a drone but on a recent shoot videographer Yan Theoret and I employed his Ronin camera gimbal. If you don't know what that is, let me enlighten you! The Ronin gimbal is an electronically-compensated camera...

#CayugaCares 2016

#CayugaCares 2016

We were asked to provide some video coverage of a great event in Cayuga called #CayugaCares. The concept was for the Cayuga and District Chamber of Commerce to facilitate and organize a community cleanup day; clearing away garbage and litter, cleaning up flower beds and planting new flowers, painting park benches and installing hanging baskets. Looks like fun! And for a great cause, too! Long time associate camera guy Chris Webster and I jumped at the opportunity to shoot a great video of the event. It was pretty hot, but we drank lots of water. I shot with my trusty C100 whereas Chris...

The Production Process & Editing

The Production Process & Editing

Many people I speak with find editing a bit intimidating. I think a lot of that mindset comes from an unfamiliarity with the process visual production and I'm always happy to consult and enlighten about what it takes to realize a video production. When I worked in broadcast there was always the old joke that we could "fix it in post;" that is, fix it in editing. While we always had some options for fixing mistakes or cleaning up a shot you're really governed by the material you've gathered in the first place. You can't edit a shot you never took! Now mind you, fixing problems in post is part...

Event Coverage: Ron Foxcroft Speech

Event Coverage: Ron Foxcroft Speech

Did you know you can hire Windecker Road Films to provide video coverage of your event? We recently had the opportunity to do just that in Burlington for a speech by distinguished entrepreneur Ron Foxcroft. If you don't know him Ron is the successful owner of Fluke Transport as well as the inventor of the Fox40 pea less whistle. Aside from being a natural raconteur and a wonderful speaker Ron is also well-known for his philanthropy. One of the ways he gives back to his community is by speaking to groups of young entrepreneurs like this one about his struggles and successes. This particular...

Shooting at Mohawk College

Shooting at Mohawk College

Today we spent the day at Mohawk College's Stoney Creek campus shooting material for a fundraising project. Producer Fred Anderton and I were surrounded by tractor trailers in the Gerald Marshall Transportation Centre. The activity in the shop allowed me an opportunity to do some timelapse shots with my motion control rig. It's a fun piece of gear to use but it's also a really excellent creative tool that allows me to achieve shots that have a little extra impact. What a fantastic program and an amazing facility! We hope we'll do it justice in the final edit!

Winter comes to Southern Ontario

Winter comes to Southern Ontario

Well, sort of. The temperature has been inconsistent and I've only had to use my new snowblower once. You can decide for yourself if that's a bonus or a disappointment but for me a snow day means I get a "bonus day." Armed with a pot of coffee I'll get into some editing today for a personal project or two. I'll have the cat to keep me warm. I guess I'll eventually have to get out there and get that snowblower going.
